Indianapolis School of Ballet and Dance Kaleidoscope to present a Spirit & Place event

As part of the 2011 Spirit & Place Festival, “The Body”, the Indianapolis School of Ballet in collaboration with Dance Kaleidoscope will be hosting a moderated discussion, performance and photography exhibit on Sunday, November 6 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Focusing on Indianapolis artistic directors and the iconic mentors that inspired them, Dance Kaleidoscope’s Artistic Director David Hochoy, a Martha Graham protégé, and Indianapolis School of Ballet’s Artistic Director Victoria Lyras, a product of George Balanchine's School of American Ballet, will participate in the discussion led by Rita Kohn, NUVO dance critic and member of the Board of Directors of the International Dance Critics Association.

Get inside the creative mind of these choreographers and find out how movement and music have inspired their work. Experience the wonder of modern dance and classical ballet with a live studio performance and witness the power of how tradition was passed in direct lineage from mentor to dancer, and now to a third generation of dancers and students right here in Indianapolis.

Bringing this event to a close will be an exhibit of dance photography by Crowe’s Eye Photography, Freddie Kelvin and Laura Breece -- artists specializing in capturing an ephemeral moment in dance and translating the active performance medium into two-dimensional art.

Join us in an appreciation of dance and the rich history of its tradition. Come explore the creative power of The Body.
